Die another day:

Guess who's 40th Anniversary and 20th movie it is? yes it's Bond! I know there have been a couple more movies but I am told that they do not count, look I do not make the rules, okay!

Starring : Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry, Toby Davies, Rik Yune, Rosamund Pike, John Cleese and Judi Dench as M

Yeah Baby, behave.

The main man is back, no not  xXx, not Austin Powers just Bond, James Bond.

Was this a good Bond movie? I have to say yes but it was also kind of strange as well. I mean a Bond movie with action scenes filmed in Slo-mo? Bond action scenes should not be matrix wannabe's. Also while a lot of the gadgets were great some were almost at the Star Trek level, I mean they even had a holodeck for crying out loud! So already we have shades of Matrix, shades of Star Trek, what next you may ask.

Well I tell you the answer is lots and lots of good bond scenes, first off there is a good opening action scene and very unusually we see Bond suffer very badly as a result of his actions, and this all takes place during the opening credits this coupled with Madonna's music made for a very strange opening credits for a Bond movie.

The best thing in this movie for me is the sword fight between Bond and Graves, this must be one of the best and most violent fights ever in a bond movie, I loved it! One of the reasons I liked the Dalton Bond was the fact that he showed loads of anger and other dark emotions. Well in this sword scene you will not have seen an angrier Bond, I nominate this fight for best Bond fight ever. Engarde!

Now lets talk about the latest Bond girl, Humma, Humma, boy is Halle Berry hot! She looks good enough to eat and I think Bond did just that!

Halle basically plays a female Bond and pulls it off nicely especially that Ursula Andress swimsuit, wow!

There a lot of references to past Bond movies in this film and a few of them will only be noticed by the hardcore Bond fans, I might have missed a few myself but I spotted the Bird watching book and also the fact that Q reckons that he has given Bond 19 watches in the past!

Judi Dench as M was great as always and her grim and uncompromising demeanour seems that expected of a MI6 chief.

On the down side as well was one particular sequence that had some real dodgy special effects, I am talking about a certain race car and ice escape towards the end of the movie, this even had my wife cringing at it. That sequence looked like it had been done on the cheap! Rick Yune as chief henchman looked the part but did not really walk the walk for me.

In all this was a welcome addition to the Bond series and a good one for Brosnan, may Bond continue in the 21st century for as long as it did in the 20th.

My movie rating is : 7/10

See ya later,
