Eight Legged Freaks:

Going into this film I expected this to a modern homage to all those B rated monster movies of the fifties and their offspring's like Jaws, I was expecting all the regular clichés in such movies like the guy who tries to warn them but is ignored, the town leader who for monetary or political reasons turns a blind eye, the conveniently out of service phone line and the all-conquering hero who slays the monster with a conveniently handy tool. What I was not expecting was this to be a boring and even dumber movie than the ones it's paying homage to! I give this movie a rating of 3/10 and that is me being generous.

Synopsis: You all know this story by now, Due to pollution by toxic wastes members of the Arachnid family (spiders to you unlearned ones) mutate to giant size and attack sleepy small American town.

Director : Ellory Elkayem
Starring : David Arquette, Scarlett Johansson, Doug E Doug

Positives :

1. The only positive in this film was the fact that it only lasted about 90 minutes

Negatives :

1. Why on earth those David Arquette keep on getting roles! He's not funny, has no charisma and the only thing remotely interesting about him is that he is married to Courtney Cox. He is the main star in this movie and that itself is a large rock around any movie.

2. This film is implausible, cheesy and full of at best very pedestrian acting. Do not get me started on the special effects!

3. Well since you started me off on the special effects, they were not very special! The spiders were very unconvincing especially when they were jumping around like kangaroo's on speed.

4.I know this film was meant to be a parody of all those B monster movies of the 50's but surely the parody should be more knowing than what it parodies, shouldn't it?

5. Can someone explain to me why the sheriff in this movie and her beau seem to be the same age as her daughter and her teenage mates?

6. Oh, lastly Doug E Doug as the comic relief was not comic in the least!

I went into cinema expecting it not to be a serious movie but at an enjoyable silly romp, well at least it was silly.

See ya later,

Shazam!
