Another month another superhero flick, as a comic geek I am loving these movies but I am now worried that we are reaching the point of diminishing returns. After the heights of the X-Men movies and Spider-Man we had the depths of Daredevil. I was hoping that the Hulk would bulk this trend but while not being a totally crap film it does commit the even worse sin of being boring in long stretches.

When I went into this movie I had fears about the fact that that the Hulk was rendered by CGI, I was not convinced by the trailers, but funny enough the appearances of the Hulk were the highlights of this movie.

To me the CGI was realistic and I did not feel that it was fact even when he was swinging tanks around.

The main problem with this film was the fact that Ang Lee tried very hard to make a psychological drama and in my opinion failed miserably, the whole idea of his father trying to kill Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) just seemed totally inconceivable. Actually the father's motivation throughout this film makes no sense to me at all and his appearances just seemed to me without any logic at all.

The origin of the Hulk is quite different from the comics and by different it is not better actually it seems much more implausible!

The acting in this movie is quite good and I loved Sam Elliot as General Thunderbolt Ross the nemesis of the Hulk.

The worst part of this movie was in the last half hour or so, We now have the Bruce Banner's Dad (Nick Nolte) becoming a super powered being and fighting his son in a very hard to follow sequence.

Ang Lee's direction of the action sequences apart from the last fight was quite good and used a lot of split screens to good effect also invoking the feeling of actually reading a comic book.

I loved watching the Hulk kick some army butt and this was the only element from the comics that was produced faithfully. I just wished we had more of the Hulk in action.

I hope the sequel if there is one concentrates more on the action and less on the psychodrama.

This scores a not very incredible 5/10

See ya later,
