| Director : | Christopher Nolan |
| Starring : | Al Pacino, Robin Williams & Hilary Swank |
This is the second film from wonder kid Chris Nolan, his first movie Memento is now an instant classic and one of my all time favourite movies. Due to this I was expecting great things from this movie, alas even though it was good a classic it is not!
Al Pacino gives a great turn as good cop who may have crossed the the line, his gradual disintegration throughout the film due to his lack of sleep can be seen etched into every line and crag of his well worn face. It is easy to believe that having such a weather beaten visage makes it easier to convey exhaustion and this is pivotal to the film.
The film has a stark quality to it which conveys the relentless 24 hours daylight and it's effects on the human psyche.
Robin Williams gives a decent performance as the protagonist in the movie, again this is a character that seems to be a decent fellow on the outside and just happened to cross the line once but in his case his total lack of any remorse or even the basic stirring of any conscience marks him out to be on the wrong side of the line that separates man from psychopath.
The film is all about Dormer's efforts to capture the murderer of a young high school student, he has been sent to help the local Alaskan police with this case while he is being investigated back at his home base for improper behaviour. His partner comes along for the ride and there is tension brewing between them due to the case looming over them both and these tensions spill over into the Alaskan case.
This is a bit above the norm fare for a movie but I was expecting a lot more from Chris Nolan and probably will get more in the future, but this time this is Chris's first big budget venture was probably playing it safe.
This one for you to wait for it to come out on DVD
My movie rating is : 5.5/10
