Well I will call this a film of two half's, but more on that later.
Firstly what is the plot? well basically it is the future and if you have the money you can have a clone grown of you that will serve as spare parts for you in case you get in an accident or maybe you need an organ transplant later in life.
So all the rich and powerful have these clones but they think that these clones are just brain dead organic matter and are unaware of the truth, which is that the clones are not vegetative but living walking talking human beings with souls of their own!
The company behind the clones guard this secret zealously as they know that if the public knew the truth about the clones there would be a public outcry and they would have to close down.
Well the clones themselves are hidden away in a complex and are told lies that they are survivors of an Earth wide disaster, the only reward they can look forward to is winning a lottery which chooses people to go to the only contamination free spot left on Earth, a kind of tropical paradise called the Island to repopulate the Earth.

Why did I call it a film of two half's? Well the film starts of very well and we follow Ewan Mcgregor as the clone Lincoln Six Echo as he begins to questions his environment. It is quite gripping at this stage and when he realises that winning the lottery actually means death we share in his horror.
His subsequent escape with another clone Jordan Two Delta played by Scarlett Johansson is quite exciting and for added measure we get the pleasure of seeing them interact with Steve Buscemi as an outsider who ends up helping them.

The attempts by the company to recapture the escaped clones before they can reveal the secret to the world leads to some of the best and most exciting stunts I have seen in a long time.
This is where Michael Bay shines! I was grinning at the screen like a testerone fueled teenager! The excitement grips us all the way up to when Lincoln Six Echo meets his Original Tom Lincoln. From here and especially after Tom Lincoln is killed and Six Echo decides to go back and free the remaining clones the film really takes a nose dive and lands head first in mediocrity. It now becomes a bore-fest and all the excitement of the first hour seems like a long forgotten dream.
Michael Bay should really have done better with the latter half of this film. I am a firm believer that films should always end on a high, weather it is an emotional high or a physical one, especially a film like this that is basically a high octane action feast.
After all the initial stunts and car chases we now climax with a fight between Six Echo and a doctor!! That was lame with a capital L.

As much as I admire Sean Bean, in this movie he was criminally underused in this film. I would have rather seen him in the role of Djiman Honsou as the clone hunter. That is not to say Djimon was bad, no he was quite good despite the fact that his character takes a sudden u-turn in motivation at the end which does not ring true at all!!!

Steve Buscemi was great as usual and the main leads of Ewan and Scarlett put in a decent performance. The film had good performances but was in the end let down by the scripts last act.

The first hour gets an 9 but the last 40 minutes gets only a 3 so overall it's score is 6/10
