The Matrix Reloaded

The most eagerly awaited sequel this year finally arrives, will it be all we expected or will we be disappointed? Well read on folks and find out my opinion.

Synopsis: Neo's powers in the Matrix are now at its peak and it will be needed if they are to defeat the machines once and for all. The machines have located Zion and are digging their way to the last refuge of humans, it's a race against time to stop the machines from wiping out the human race.

Director : The Warchowski Brothers
Starring : Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne-Moss, Laurence Fishbourne, Hugo Weaving, Jada Pinkett & Mona Gaye.

To start off this film has a lot to live upto by being the sequel to The Matrix which I rank as one of the best all time classic Sci-fi action movies.

Unfortunately Reloaded goes the way of most sequels and fails to match the original.

When watching this movie the feeling is that this is just more of the same, do not get me wrong this is not a bad film but when you go into a movie thinking that this will be the greatest action sci-fi film and then turns out to be just okay then you will be very disappointed and this will colour your perception the movie as a whole.

Let me list what I thought were the things wrong with the movie:

1. To much exposition! There was just too much talking by certain characters, when I mean too much I mean certain characters spent 5 minutes explaining stuff that should only take a minute! This got quite boring at times.

2.. There is a sex scene in the movie between Trinity and Neo that totally unnecessary to me and this went on for too long.

3. At times some of the special effects were obviously CGI and you could spot this, though I must say to be fair to the movie that some people said they did not notice this.

4. Even with all the talking and explaining a lot of people still did not understand what was going on and were especially confused by the abilities of Neo, this could have been explained in one sentence and would have improved the viewing of most people. How do I now this? Well I went and watched this movie with a group of 12 people and the most common complaint afterwards much talking was "How come Neo could do all that stuff?"

5. The pacing of the whole movie could have been improved by better editing, after watching the movie I thought it was more than 2 hours long, imagine my surprise when I was told it was only an hour and half long!

6. Why did we have to sit through almost 10 minutes of credits in the end to watch a short trailer for Matrix Revolutions?

Now onto the good:

1. The best thing in this movie in my opinion were the flying sequences. When Neo flew I thought to myself boy this is fantastic! His coat even looked like a cloak and just made me think this is how any film about Superman should handle his flying!

In one sequence Neo is flying so fast that he has created a wake in his trail and all sorts of stuff were being dragged behind him, beautiful!

2. The fighting sequences were quite good even if it seemed at times to be repeats of stuff we've seem before, the car chase sequence in the end was quite good as well.

3. The Sci-fi elements of the movie was well done and this was at heart a hardcore sci-fi movie which I enjoy a lot, the only let down was they kept on trying to explain the concepts to us as if we were too dumb to understand them. A lot of people did not understand the first movie but it still was a great success!

The acting in the movie was overall well done and that included Keanu Reeves for all you doubters.

This movie can only improve when viewed on DVD and may be even better when viewed together with the third part Matrix Revolutions which is due out in November, especially since this movie actually ends on a cliffhanger and is to be continued in the third movie.

Matrix Reloaded is worth watching but do not expect too much and you'll enjoy it more.

This is the film earns an unimpressive 5.5/10

See ya later,
