Ahoy you landlubbers,

I saw all the adverts for this movie and said to myself that it's been ages since I have seen a pirate movie and was looking forward to this as I had fond memories of watching the Seven Voyages of Sinbad as a kid.

Well I have seen it now and this is a film that could have ranked right up there among the classics like The Raiders of the Lost Ark, except for the fact it just lacked that last vital ingredient.

I have thought about this movie for quite awhile trying to pinpoint what that vital missing ingredient is that let it down and I am still not sure. All I can say is that while watching it I had the feeling throughout the movie that this was going to be brilliant but it never quite achieved it.

I am going to score this as a 5 out of 10 but this could easily have been a 9!

Some things that I did find lacking was the lack of many memorable moments, the only one that stuck with me was the sight of Jack Sparrow calmly striding onto dock from his sinking ship, that was cool.

Another annoying things was that the main concept behind the movie was this cursed treasure but towards the end the mechanics of this curse did not seem to have any consistency! As this was the main plot point it should have been made clear how it works and not left in doubt. I had a long argument after the movie with my missus telling her that the ending in the treasure cave did not make sense but she seemed to think I got it wrong (like I ever do!).

The acting in this movie was okay but I really enjoyed seeing McKenzie Crook from the The Office get a decent role and play it for all it's worth, good on you Gareth.

Oh well lets hope Jason v Freddy works out better.

This scores a 5/10

I am out.
