Red Dragon:

Synopsis: After capturing Hannibal Lector FBI agent Will Graham retired from the force, now years later a new serial killer the Tooth fairy is on the loose and his expertise is needed, but can he do this alone or will he need the insights of Hannibal to crack the case?

Director : Brett Ratner
Starring : Anthony Hopkins, Edward Norton, Harvey Keitel, Phillip Heyman Seymour, and Ralph Fiennes

After watching and reading Hannibal the sequel to Silence of the Lambs I thought that would be that for this franchise, all the chills and restrained horror of Lambs was lost in Hannibal, Hopkins was way over the top.

So when they announced that a prequel was being planned I did not hold out much hope of it being any good, I was wrong.

Before I go any further I must admit that I have not seen Manhunter which is the first adaptation of this story and hence I am going into this without any preconceptions.

I enjoyed this movie and it turned out to be more of a straight forward cop story which just happens to guest star Hannibal. Edward Norton is always watchable and he remains so in this movie. One of my disappointments though was how lightweight Harvey Keitel's role was in this movie, come on guys this is the Wolf, he deserves better than this!

Ralph Fiennes was adequate as the tooth fairy and thank god he did not ham it up, I must say though that I spotted the "twist ending" a mile off

All in all it was a pleasant trip to the movies and I am now of to try and watch the original Manhunter on DVD.

My movie rating is : 6.5/10

See ya later,
