The Ring:

Synopsis: There is a videotape that once watched the viewers will receive a phone call informing them that they will die in seven days, so far no one has survived watching the tape for more than the seven days. Urban myth or factual truth?

Director : Gore Verbinski
Starring : Noami Watts, Martin Henderson, David Dorfman and Brian Cox

This movie is a remake of an original Japanese film, which I have not seen and hence cannot compare. What I can say though is that this is a decent enough film that keeps the attention.

The whole premise of the movie is that a there exists a certain tape that once viewed will lead to your death in seven days. A hardnose reporter gets wind of this urban myth and tries to disprove it. After getting hold of then tape and watching it she gradually starts to think there may be some truth to the myth, now she has to find a way of beating the countdown.

The movie is well directed and has good performances from the mostly unknown cast (unknown to me!) Certain elements regarding the origin of the tape seemed a bit vague and the whole delving into the background of the tape tended to jump to certain conclusions and entirely ignored certain obvious loopholes.

The movie provides it's fair share of shocks but was not the bone chiller that Omen was to me when I was 12.

This movie scores decent 6/10

See ya later,
