Well that makes three out of three for me. What do I mean? Well put it this way I have not enjoyed any of these Lord of the Ring movies that much in the cinema. They all seem overly long for no good reason. I found that I enjoyed the first two movies much better when I watched it on DVD.

The Return of the King is being hailed by many as the best film of the year, I have to disagree very strongly about this!

RotK is at best an average film with some good bits nothing more.

I actually fell ill while watching this movie!
Now my illness may have more to do with me stuffing my face full of dodgy food over Xmas but that is beside the point because the ending of this film is enough to make anyone sick!

The ending lasts for about an hour it seems and it is saccharine sweet, it has to be the most soppy ending ever! This film has at least 9 major characters and it seems that they all got an ending each.
At least 4 times I thought the film was over only for it to continue!

At first I applauded the filming of all three parts of this film at once but not anymore. I now realise that for a director it is good to have time to reflect on a film before embarking on the sequel, as this allows for feedback but in this case Peter Jackson basically shot the whole trilogy without any pause for reflection which is probably why the first film seems to be the best of the lot!

The best bit for me in this film is when they light the torch in Gondor and this leads to stunning sequence of torches being lit till it is seen in Rohan!

Another good bit is the battle for Gondor and the way big pieces of Masonry are used as weapons in most graphic ways!

Unfortunately these bits could not make up for all the other mediocre stuff.

I mean the whole Frodo, Sam and Gollum segments of this movie just made me groan most of the time and for me Frodo was the least interesting of all the characters and he is supposed to be the lead!!

Even when they reached the end of their journey in Mordor I was well underwhelmed by the way the ring was destroyed. I mean where was Sauron himself?

Also Gandalf was a big disappointment in this movie, all he did was shine bright lights and fight like a normal man, I thought he was supposed to be a heavy duty wizard??
His summoning of Eagles was the only bit he did that I found worthwhile.

In terms of the storyline a lot was missing for me, the attitude of the steward of Gondor during the attack of Sauron was puzzling as was the way Gandalf got away with disrespecting him.
The ghost army that Aragorn recruited smacked of Deus ex Machina to me, I mean they were pretty convenient weren't they?

The film has to be watched just so that you can see the end of the trilogy but I know for a fact it will not linger much in my memory.

The Kings approval rating is a measly 5!
